AtharaMaga ("the app") is a driving companion developed by ceylonApz ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app uses, why, where it goes, and the choices you have. The short version: we do not run our own servers, we do not sell data, and your saved places, reminders, and settings stay on your device.
1. Information the app uses
Location (foreground and background)
Location is the heart of the app. It is used to:
- show your position on the map and reverse-geocode your current address;
- search for places near you or along your route;
- run geofences for the "get ready to stop" alerts you arm — including in the background or with the screen off, so an alert can fire while you drive;
- work out which side of the road a place is on, from your GPS heading;
- update the live "next stop" notification while you navigate.
Search history, saved places, and settings
Your recent searches, custom categories, saved places (such as Home or Office), and preferences are stored only on your device. They are not uploaded to us. Uninstalling the app deletes them.
Vehicle information (Android Auto)
When connected to a compatible car, the app can read vehicle data through Android's Car App hardware APIs — such as model, fuel or battery level, range, speed, odometer, and toll-card status — with your permission. This data is displayed to you in the app and used to improve alerts (for example, speed-aware timing). It is processed on your device and is not transmitted to CeylonAPZ.
Crash and usage data
The app uses Google Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports) and Firebase Analytics (aggregate usage events, such as which features are used) to keep the app stable and improve it. These reports may include device model, OS version, and app version. They do not include your saved places or search history.
2. Information shared with third parties
To provide its features, the app sends limited data to Google services:
- Google Maps, Places, and Routes APIs — your location coordinates and search queries are sent to Google to return maps, place results, and routes. This data is handled under Google's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase (Google) — crash and analytics data as described above.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. The app contains no ads.
3. What we do not collect
- No account or sign-in is required; we do not collect your name, email, or contacts.
- We do not run our own backend; your location is never stored on CeylonAPZ servers.
- Voice alerts are generated on your device using Android text-to-speech; no audio is recorded or transmitted.
4. Data retention
On-device data (searches, saved places, settings) remains until you clear it in the app or uninstall. Crash and analytics data are retained by Firebase per Google's standard retention periods.
5. Your choices
- Revoke location, notification, or car-data permissions at any time in Android settings; related features stop working accordingly.
- Clear search history and remove saved places or custom categories in the app's settings.
- Disarm any alert by tapping its bell again.
6. Children
AtharaMaga is a driving app intended for licensed drivers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Security
Communication with Google services uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). On-device data is stored in the app's private storage, protected by Android's application sandbox.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app's release notes.
